Hand Luggage Size Checker
Select your airline, enter your bag size and weight, and get an instant fits or exceeds result. This is a guide only — the airline's own baggage page prevails at the gate.
Tip: measure the whole bag including wheels and handles. Measure in cm. If you measured in inches, multiply by 2.54, or use the inch converter below.
Why there is no single European size
Each airline sets its own limit. A bag that fits one airline can exceed another by a few centimetres. That is why this checker asks for the airline first, then checks your exact bag against that airline only — never against a generic “European size”.

How to use this checker in 3 steps
- Choose your airline — Ryanair, easyJet, Lufthansa, British Airways and more are in the list.
- Choose cabin bag or personal item — cabin bag goes in the overhead locker, personal item goes under the seat.
- Enter your bag size and weight — you get Fits or Exceeds, plus how many centimetres you are over.
How to measure your bag correctly
- Put the bag on a flat surface, fully packed, with wheels and handles out.
- Measure the longest side first, then the middle side, then the shortest side — in centimetres.
- Measure the whole bag including wheels, handles and outside pockets, because airlines do the same at the gate.
- If you measured in inches, use the inch converter above (1 inch = 2.54 cm).
Liquids in hand luggage
EU rule, in plain words: each container up to 100 ml, all containers together in one transparent, resealable bag of about 1 litre, and one bag per passenger. Larger liquids go in checked luggage, except medicines and baby food where the airline allows it — check your airline page for exceptions.
Common mistakes that cost a fee at the gate
- Measuring without wheels and handles, then finding the bag is 2 cm over.
- Assuming the basic fare includes a cabin bag — on Ryanair and Wizz Air it is Priority only.
- Forgetting the personal item limit — a second bag must also fit under the seat.
- Ignoring weight — a bag can fit in size but fail on weight.
